5 Day Gratitude Challenge – Day 5

Life is not a destination, it is a never-ending journey.

Recently, I had this awakening inside of me. I used to think that life is all about achievement – doing the best at the highest level. That was my perception of life.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen the movie Soul, but it is a great movie and I highly recommend that you watch it. In the movie, it takes forever for her to come to the planet Earth because she couldn’t find her spark. She thought that the spark is supposed to be some kind of passion, like to be an artist or a musician. Later on, she realized that life wasn’t about passion for certain things – it was about passion for life itself.

Growing up in an Asian family, our parents always had high standards for us. We were expected to work hard and soar in everything that we do. That was the kind of standard we had while growing up.

Looking back on the past 20 years of my life, I asked myself if I was living for myself or for somebody else. I went to school, got good grades, after graduating I got a job, and then built a business. I followed the path my parents paved for me, but I wasn’t really living for myself. I was living in somebody else’s shadow.

As I was building my career as an investor and through achieving so many things, there was still no fulfillment. Every time I achieve something, I ask what’s next. It is like a rat race, it is a cycle with me chasing after the next thing.

I realized that I wasn’t living in every moment. My recent awakening told me to be grateful just for the opportunity to live in the present and experience life. Sometimes we try to fight life but everything happens for a reason. We may not know what the reasons are, but I believe that when the universe wants us to learn a lesson, it will be good for us.

We just have to calm down and accept what comes to us. Sometimes, bullshit can take us to the top, but will it help us stay there? Life is all about living and enjoying what we have. If today was a bad day, that’s okay. We’ll accept it, and move forward. If today becomes a great day, we’ll accept it and be happy.

So today, I want to encourage you to take a break and really embrace this life that you have on this planet. Be conscious about everything around you, simply live, and do the best you can because that is the best thing we can do for ourselves.
