Many people, when it comes to investing, would say it makes sense to invest in mentorship, personal health, insurance, and the likes but would not see relationships in the same light.
In one of the previous videos I posted, I mentioned that the quality of your question determines the quality of your life. Why is that?
Most of the time, when we need to get something done we ask how we can make it happen. If you change that mindset and ask who can help you achieve your goals instead, you take years of work and trial and error out of the process.
Years ago, I wanted to make the transition from investing in single-family homes to apartments, I spent a lot of money on a personal improvement program but after I finished the course, I couldn’t get a single deal.
One day, I went to the salon and met a lady who told me that she was an apartment investor. I expressed my interest in investing in apartments and we exchanged numbers. After that, she had invited me out a few times, and we would build a connection with each other.
She told me about one of their events on apartment investing and asked if I wanted to take a look. I said yes, and I went to take a look – and that was my first apartment investing deal.
Imagine if I just tried to do everything on my own, if I did not build that connection with the lady who helped me find my first apartment investment, and if I did not learn from her, I would probably have taken longer to begin investing in apartments. Today I have already invested in over a thousand apartments, and I am very grateful for what I was able to accomplish.
Leverage is power. It takes 10-20 years of wasted time and effort and adds more value to your personal and professional life.
This is where many startup entrepreneurs struggle – they do not have the network. Relationships take time to foster. It does not form overnight. Think of it as seeds you’re planting that will help you gain more in the future.
It’s not about what you know, it’s about WHO you know.
